Lester Chang studied banking and finance at Brooklyn College and earned a master's degree in international transportation from SUNY Maritime College, then worked in global trade and logistics with 20 years of management experience before his 2022 election to the Assembly, per his official Assembly biography. He served in the Navy Reserve and New York Naval Militia, including a deployment to Afghanistan, and volunteered in 2020 to help convert the Jacob Javits Convention Center into a field hospital.
