Who runs The Ballot Brief.
The Ballot Brief is an independent, nonpartisan 2026 voting resource covering federal, statewide and tracked local elections across all 50 states. It does not endorse candidates.
The site was founded by Ben Torres Ezrick, a former Google and Zoom executive based in Miami Beach, Florida. He is the site's founder and editor. The Ballot Brief grew out of his own experience as a voter: wanting one place to see everyone on his ballot and what each candidate actually stands for, instead of piecing it together from a dozen different sources.
That starting point shapes how the site is built: coverage of every U.S. House and Senate race, every governor's race, and the statewide, county and city races we are able to track, alongside the certified list of measures on each state's ballot.
How candidate information is compiled.
Every roster starts from the certified candidate lists that state and county election offices publish. County election offices and secretaries of state are the source of truth for who is actually on a ballot.
Beyond the printed ballot
Each candidate entry adds context the printed ballot does not include: stated policy priorities, the official campaign website, campaign finance where it is available, and voting records for sitting officeholders.
Ballot measures
Statewide ballot measures are tracked alongside each measure's official ballot language, so voters can read exactly what they will be asked to decide.
Where the facts come from
Candidate information is compiled from certified state and county election office lists, official campaign finance disclosures, and candidates' own published materials, including campaign sites and official biographies. Incumbent status comes only from official rosters.
When nothing verifiable exists
When no campaign website or published material can be found for a name, the entry says so, along with the date it was checked, instead of guessing.
Voters are encouraged to cross-check what they find here with their own official election office. Every county and race page links directly to the official election office for its state.
Corrections and contact.
Candidates, campaigns and readers who spot an error can write in through the contact page. Corrections are made to the live page. Ballot status facts, such as a withdrawal or a suspended campaign, follow the certified list from the relevant election office.
The Ballot Brief also offers a free, embeddable ballot lookup widget for newsrooms, libraries and civic organizations. Details are on the widget page.
