About the Warrenton Mayor

Warrenton is run under the council-manager form: the Town Council holds all legislative powers, sets ordinances, policies and budgets, and appoints a town manager who manages day-to-day operations. The mayor is elected separately from the council members, presides over the Council, is the ceremonial head of the town and votes only to break a tie, per the town and the town charter.

The Council has the mayor plus seven members, one from each of the town's five wards and two at large, serving four-year overlapping terms, per the town's Town Council page. The mayor is elected at large, so all Warrenton voters vote on the office. The Council adopted a $58.2 million budget for fiscal year 2027 on June 9, 2026, per FauquierNow.

This is an open seat: Mayor H. E. Carter Nevill's term ends December 31, 2026, per the town's Town Council page, and he is not on the ballot. FauquierNow reports Warrenton will elect a new mayor for the first time in more than eight years.
