Biography

Carl E. Heastie has represented the 83rd Assembly District since 2000 and was elected Speaker of the New York State Assembly in 2015, the first African American to lead the body, per his campaign site. He previously chaired the Assembly Labor Committee and authored the 2010 Wage Theft Prevention Act, per his campaign site. He holds a bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University and an MBA from Baruch College, per his campaign site.
