About the Eunice City Marshal

The city marshal is the executive officer of the city court. The marshal carries out the court's orders and mandates and is a peace officer, per section 13:1881 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes. The office is elected at the congressional election every six years, for a term that starts on January 1, per section 13:1879. The marshal must live in the court's territory, per section 13:1880.

The Eunice City Court's territory is the first, second, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth voting precincts of Ward 6 of St. Landry Parish plus the part of the city of Eunice in Acadia Parish, per section 13:1952. The St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court's city courts page lists the Eunice marshal as the marshal for Ward 6. State law sets a minimum salary of $15,000 for the Eunice marshal, paid half by the city and half by the parish, per section 13:1883. The marshal's office reported about $393,000 in revenue for the year ended June 30, 2024, most of it $338,220 in salary and benefits paid on its behalf by the parish, the city and the state, plus $53,860 in fees earned, per its financial report filed with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor.
