Medeiros served in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 2021, per Hawaii News Now. Medeiros and incumbent Rep. Kanani Souza tied in the House District 43 Republican primary. A name drawing initially selected Medeiros, but the Hawaii Supreme Court later found the tie-breaking process legally flawed and ordered a new election between Souza and Medeiros to be held concurrently with the November 3 general election, per Hawaii News Now.
