About this race

OPEN SEAT on the November 3 ballot: the previous clerk resigned in April 2025. This is Maricopa's marquee countywide race of 2026; supervisors, sheriff, recorder, and the other county offices were elected in 2024 and are not on this ballot. Maricopa voters also decide Proposition 413, a continuation of the jail facility excise tax, and 48 Superior Court judges face retention votes.

What this office does

Clerk of court. The clerk of court keeps the official records of the county's trial courts: filings, case files, judgments and, in many states, jury lists and court fees. The clerk's office manages the court's finances, issues certain licenses and, in some states, handles probate or small-claims paperwork. The clerk does not decide cases.
