Lawley grew up in Worland and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a political science degree before graduating with honors from Baylor Law School, per the campaign site. She practiced as a business litigator in Houston starting in 1981, eventually becoming a named partner at her firm, per the campaign site. She is the sitting representative for House District 27, serving on the Education Committee and the Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee, per the campaign site.
