Defebaugh serves as a Deputy County Prosecuting Attorney in Albany County, per the campaign site. Defebaugh earned a political science degree and law degree at the University of Wyoming and serves as a Judge Advocate officer with the Wyoming Army National Guard's 115th Field Artillery Brigade. Defebaugh has been involved with the American Legion Wyoming Boys' State program and previously served as Student Body President at the University of Wyoming.

He spent 10 years as a criminal prosecutor in the Albany County Attorney's Office before moving to private practice in 2019, and currently also serves as magistrate for the Second Judicial District Court and Laramie Municipal Court, per the county's official website.
