McDonald won the runoff 63.1%-36.9%, per the county's official runoff canvass. No Democrat filed for the seat, so McDonald is the only candidate on the November 3 ballot. The seat is open; longtime commissioner Cynthia Long did not seek re-election.

Biography

David McDonald is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a retired Austin Police officer with more than 31 years in public safety, per his campaign site. He serves on Leander City Council and has lived in Williamson County for more than 28 years, per the same source. His campaign cites experience in disaster response, including floods, wildfires and winter storms.
