Henry Lee Butler grew up on a working ranch in Crane, Texas and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Baylor University in 1986 and a master's degree in 1988, later completing coursework toward a PhD in sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder, per his campaign site. He moved to Weatherford in 1999 to serve as Director of IT at Weatherford College, retiring from that role in July 2021, per his campaign site. His father was a rancher and county commissioner in Crane County, per his campaign site.
