About this race

May 26 runoff result: Leslie Edwards unseated one-term incumbent Lucyann Sanchez-Miramontez in the Democratic runoff (Sanchez-Miramontez led the March 3 primary field with 45.4% to Edwards' 37.6% and Steve Romero's 16.9%, but Edwards won the runoff), per the Waco Tribune-Herald. What this office does

Justice of the peace. Justices of the peace handle the lowest-level court matters: small claims, evictions, traffic and minor criminal cases, and, in some states, marriages and inquests. The office is part of the judiciary, so candidates are limited in what they may promise.
