Hunter practices civil law through his own firm in Corpus Christi, with a practice covering insurance, commercial, banking and appellate law, per the campaign site. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas and a law degree from Southern Methodist University, per the campaign site. He first served in the Legislature from 1988 to 1997 and returned in 2008, now serving representing District 32, per the campaign site.
