Incumbent Republican Tom Grossmann won the May 5, 2026 Republican primary over Lebanon Mayor Mark Messer with 61.66% of the vote, per the Journal-News; he faces Democrat Ian Logan and Libertarian Katherine Bowles, both unopposed in their own primaries, in November.

Biography

Tom Grossmann is a lawyer who was an equity partner at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister for 27 years and previously worked as an assistant general counsel for Montedison in Italy, per his campaign site. He served on Mason City Council from 2001-2009 and 2011-2014, including as mayor and vice mayor, and has served as Warren County commissioner since 2015, per the Journal-News.
