About the Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District

The district is a sub-unit of state government whose five-member Board of Supervisors oversees programs that help residents with natural resource problems. Ninety-six of North Carolina's 100 counties have one, per the county's district page. Its programs include water quality protection assistance, livestock exclusion fencing, conservation planning and easements, the Voluntary Agricultural District program, Envirothon and other conservation education, beaver management and a no-till drill.

The board has five supervisors: three elected and two appointed. Terms are four years and the seats are nonpartisan. The elected supervisors run countywide on the general ballot, so every Johnston County voter votes on them, and two seats are up in 2026, per the county's district board page.

John Langdon (chairman) and Dewitt Hardee are the two elected supervisors whose terms run through December 31, 2026, per the district board page, and both are on the ballot.
