Romero is the son of Colombian immigrants who was born in a basement apartment and raised in New York City public housing in Queens, per the campaign site. He has worked in community organizing in the district he grew up in, which includes Astoria, Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside, per the campaign site.
