J. Gustavo Rivera is the Democratic candidate for New York Senate District 33 on the November 3, 2026 ballot, per the State Board of Elections' certified general-election ballot. Rivera, born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1998 and pursued doctoral studies in political science at the CUNY Graduate Center, per his official Senate page. He worked as director of outreach for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and now chairs the Senate Health Committee, the first person of color to hold that post, per the same source.
