The surrogate is the judge of the Surrogate's Court and also a deputy clerk of the Superior Court, in its Chancery Division (Probate Part and Family Part). The office probates estates with and without wills, reviews and files contested estate cases, finalizes adoptions, appoints guardians for minors who receive funds and for incapacitated adults, and keeps the county's probate, guardianship and adoption records. Raisch is the incumbent Monmouth County Surrogate, having previously served more than 20 years in public service in the Middletown Township Mayor's Office, per her official Surrogate's office biography.
