McCann is a lifelong Omahan who studied law enforcement at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and went on to lead the Omaha Area and Douglas County 911 emergency communications system, per his campaign site. He has worked with the City of Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska State Patrol and the National Weather Service on disaster preparedness and public safety coordination, per his campaign site.
