Owen, a Bozeman native, spent 22 years as a plumber before opening his own plumbing business and holds a Montana master plumber license, per his campaign site. He is also a certified welding inspector, owns a small whiskey distillery in Belgrade, and served nine years part time in the Montana Army National Guard.

Eric is a 1992 graduate of Bozeman High School with two degrees from Montana State University, and taught at Chief Joseph Middle School for 25 years, per the campaign site.
