Steve is a Montana native who grew up on a farm and ranch and moved to Great Falls in 1985 to begin a health care career as an EMS first responder, paramedic and later registered nurse, per the campaign site. He and his wife also run a wildland fire contracting business based in Cascade, and in the legislature he chaired the Natural Resources Committee and was elected Majority Whip, per the campaign site.
