Kristen Tuohy Avila holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Missouri (1999) and a law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law (2003), per the Christian County Prosecuting Attorney's office. She joined the county prosecutor's office in July 2012, served as First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for a decade, and was sworn in as prosecuting attorney in January 2023; she previously worked as a senior assistant prosecutor in Greene County, an assistant attorney general, an assistant prosecutor in Newton County, and an assistant public defender, per the same source. She received the Missouri Bar Foundation's Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award in 2014 and the 2022 Women's Justice Award for Public Service, also per the office website.
