About the Olmsted Soil and Water Conservation District

The district helps farmers, landowners and towns pay for and plan conservation work: state cost-share of up to 75 percent for erosion control and cover crops, low-interest loans of up to $200,000 for farm conservation practices, buffer and conservation easement programs, help sealing unused wells, water quality sampling in streams and rivers, and an annual native tree and plant sale, per the county's district page.

The board has five supervisors who serve 4-year terms, per the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources. A supervisor must live in the district they represent, but every Olmsted County voter votes on the seat, per the Post Bulletin. District 3 covers Dover, Elmira, Eyota, Quincy and Viola, per the county's board page. The district is funded by state and federal conservation grants, per the county's district page.
