A Mahnomen County native and Waubun High School graduate who served 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Military Policeman with multiple Middle East deployments, per his campaign site. He has worked his way up through the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office and White Earth Police Department to Lieutenant, with experience on the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force and an FBI task force, per his campaign site.

Josh Guenther is the incumbent Mahnomen County Sheriff seeking a third term in 2026, per the Detroit Lakes Tribune.
