The sitting Wayne County Executive and a former Wayne County Sheriff who served from 2003 to 2009, per the county's official County Executive page. Before leading the county he was chief of staff of the Wayne County Commission, an assistant county executive, and chief of special operations in the county prosecutor's office, per the Detroit Regional Chamber, which also credits his fiscal turnaround plan with eliminating an 82 million dollar accumulated deficit and a 52 million dollar structural deficit. He holds a law degree from Detroit College of Law and a master's in criminal justice from the University of Detroit, per the same source.
