About the 17th Judicial District Court

The court has original jurisdiction over all civil, criminal and juvenile matters in Lafourche Parish. It also hears appeals from the Thibodaux City Court, the mayor's courts of Lockport and Golden Meadow, and all justice of the peace courts in the parish. The court runs a Drug Treatment Court, a Family Preservation Court and the Families In Need of Services program, per the court.

He is a lifelong Lafourche Parish resident, a graduate of Thibodaux High School, Nicholls State University and Southern University Law Center, per the Lafourche Gazette. Brooks began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge A. Bruce Simpson in Division D from 2004 to 2005, founded Brooks Law Office, APLC, has served with the Lafourche Parish Indigent Defender's Office, and continues as City Attorney for Thibodaux, per the same source.
