John Hunt has served as Floyd County Sheriff since 2014. He began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher for the Floyd County Sheriff's Department before becoming a Prestonsburg police patrolman in 1985 and later joining Kentucky State Police in 1991. After retiring from law enforcement, he and his wife owned and operated a commercial construction and property management business, per the Sheriff's Office's official biography. John Hunt appears on the November 3, 2026 ballot for Floyd County Sheriff, per the county elections office's certified candidate list. No campaign website was found as of September 11, 2026.
