Hayek's family has farmed in Webster County, north of Duncombe, for several generations, per his campaign site. He worked as a Fort Dodge police officer beginning in 2007 and has worked at Valero Renewables since 2013, currently as a Safety Manager, and holds degrees from Iowa Central Community College and Ashford University, per his campaign site.
