Williams began his public safety career in May 1978 with the Indiana State Police, progressing through the ranks until retiring in 2003, per his campaign site. He then joined the Marion County Sheriff's Office in 2009 and advanced to Executive Officer in September 2023, per his campaign site. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Martin University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, per his campaign site. He has been involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Indiana Black Troopers Association and a Prevention of Child Abuse chapter, per his campaign site.
