The district is a state-created special district (Chapter 582, Florida Statutes) that carries out locally led programs for the conservation, protection and development of soil, water and land for agricultural purposes. It covers 1,003 square miles (903 of them land) in Orange County, bordered by Seminole, Brevard, Volusia, Osceola, Polk and Lake counties, per the district.
The board has five supervisors (Seats 1 to 5), each from a single-member district, plus non-voting associate supervisors. Seats 1, 3 and 5 are up in 2026, for four-year terms beginning January 5, 2027. The seats are nonpartisan and unpaid, per the Supervisor of Elections' 2026 sheet. A supervisor must be a registered voter living in the district and be actively engaged in agriculture (or retired after 10 years in it), be employed by an agricultural producer, or own, lease or work on agriculturally classified land, per the same sheet. The board meets the second Friday of the month, 3 to 5 p.m., in the county commission chamber, 201 S. Rosalind Ave., Orlando.
