About the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court

The Eleventh Judicial Circuit serves Miami-Dade County. It is the largest circuit in Florida and the fourth largest trial court in the nation, per the court. The court lists criminal cases, divorce, paternity, child support, estates, mental health, mortgage foreclosure, landlord and tenant disputes and small claims among the cases it hears.

The court has 123 circuit and county court judges, 80 of them circuit judges, serving more than two million people in a 2,000-square-mile area, and it disposes of about 800,000 cases a year including civil traffic infractions, per the court. Every Miami-Dade County voter votes on this seat, in a nonpartisan election.

Biography

McNeil began his legal career at the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office and was promoted to Senior Supervising Attorney, overseeing as many as 20 attorneys, per the campaign site. He has tried more than 65 cases, mostly jury trials through verdict, and ran a private law practice handling criminal and civil matters from 2008 to 2016 across Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, per the campaign site. He is a Florida Supreme Court certified circuit civil court mediator, per the campaign site.

Biography

Segura has practiced civil law for over 20 years, working at several law firms and in-house for an insurance carrier, and is an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy at St. Thomas University College of Law, per the campaign site. She served as Special Master/Magistrate for the Town of Miami Lakes for about four years and chaired the Eleventh Judicial Circuit's Professionalism Panel, per the campaign site. She earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 2005, per the campaign site.
