Angelique Ashby is a sitting State Senator representing Senate District 8 who previously served on the Sacramento City Council for more than a decade, including as Vice Mayor, per Ashby's campaign site. Ashby earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from UC Davis and a Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law, per the same source. While on the City Council, Ashby championed Sacramento's adoption of a policy ending no knock drug raid warrants and led efforts requiring body cameras for police officers, per the campaign site.
