Samir Witta is a practicing oncologist and founder of Mountain Blue Cancer Care Center, and previously conducted research at the National Institutes of Health, credited there with discovering the first transcription factor shown to convert a cell into a neuron, according to the campaign site. Witta has also worked on humanitarian projects, including providing education and aid to Syrian refugee children, and founded nonprofits that help cancer patients afford insurance costs and support minority women's health, per the same source.
