Biography
Mario Diaz-Balart spent 14 years in the Florida Legislature and became the youngest person elected to the Florida Senate at age 31 before winning his U.S. House seat, per his campaign site. Now in his eleventh congressional term, he serves as vice chair of the House Appropriations Committee and chairs its National Security Subcommittee, according to that site. It also says he founded the bipartisan Everglades Caucus and serves as dean of the Florida delegation.
