Karen Ortiz is an attorney who was born in what is now New York's 12th Congressional District and grew up on Long Island before returning to New York City after high school, per the campaign site. Ortiz graduated from Fordham Law School and previously served as a federal Administrative Judge with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; she has also worked for the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and the MTA New York City Transit, per the campaign site.
