Gus Bilirakis chairs the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade and is a senior member of that committee's health and communications and technology subcommittees, per his official House biography, which says he has authored 78 provisions signed into law and was ranked the 31st most effective lawmaker in Congress by Vanderbilt University's Center for Effective Lawmaking. First elected in 2006, he represents Citrus and Hernando counties and most of Pasco County. His campaign site highlights $585 million in federal disaster recovery funding he secured for Pasco County and his Homeowners Premium Tax Reduction Act, which would create a $10,000 above the line tax deduction for homeowners insurance premiums.
