Biography

Donavan McKinney led the August 4 Democratic contest in this district 51.9% to 48.1% with about 79% of ballots counted, a race the Associated Press had not called as of the following morning. He is a Michigan state representative from Detroit, elected to the state House in 2022, who previously worked as an organizer with SEIU Healthcare Michigan, per Michigan Advance. A lifelong Detroiter and Detroit Public Schools product, he is endorsed by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, per Bridge Detroit.
