Sullivan Jr., a Petersburg Republican, is a retired elementary school teacher who taught in Petersburg schools for more than 20 years, per his official candidate statement filed with the Alaska Division of Elections. He has lived in Petersburg since May 1980 after growing up in Evergreen Park, Illinois, and he previously worked for the U.S. Forest Service, per the same filing. He shares a name with the state's sitting U.S. senator, Dan S. Sullivan; the Division of Elections' certified list distinguishes the two by full middle name and the 'Jr.' suffix.
