Brian Mast served more than 12 years in the U.S. Army, working as a bomb disposal expert with Joint Special Operations Command and losing both legs to an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, for which he received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, per his official House biography. He later worked as an explosives specialist for the Department of Homeland Security, and that biography says he is in his fifth term representing Florida's 21st District. He chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee and serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where the biography says he focuses on Lake Okeechobee water quality.
