She was appointed to the seat on July 3, 2025 to fill the vacancy left by the death of Commissioner Irma Clark-Coleman and resigned from the Detroit Public Schools Community District board the same day, per the Michigan Chronicle. A third-generation UAW member, at 25 she became the youngest and the first African American woman elected trustee of UAW Local 245, and she previously served as president of the Detroit school board, per the commission's official member page.
